Australia - A Lucky Country | Australia is a lucky country. It is blessed with so much good fortune. It is lucky to have values that resist privilege and promote fairness. It is lucky to have a balanced view of life where time for friendships and recreation is as important as time for work. Tan Le (Young Australian of the Year 1998) |
You feel free in Australia. There is greate relief in the atmosphere. A relief from tension, from pressure, an absence on control or will or form. The skies open above you and areas open around you. D. H. Lawrence (Author)
| Australia seems refreshingly free of class prejudice. Here people take you for what you are, and are less concerned with how you speak, what job you do, where you went to school etc. I enjoy meeting people from many walks of life and treating each other as equals. Paul Davies (Aclaimed Physicist and Philosopher) |
The most appealing trait of Australia and Australians is their sense of a "fair go", with which goes a real concern and care about those who cannot help themselves, especially those who find themselves in a situation not of their own making. What makes me most proud of Australia is the fact that health care and education does not depend on the ability to pay. Dr. John Yu (Child Health Expert - Australian of the Year 1996)
| Australia's "fair-go" society is a great country to live in today. We are one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse nations in the world, where multiculturalism is accepted and celebrated as a way of life. Women are respected as equals in business, political and social life. Young Australians today grow up with a great sense of equality. As individuals we are all given a fair go, making our own choices for our families and ourselves. We are restricted only by our imagination and efforts, and not by social class or status. Whether you are born here or overseas it does not take long for you become part of Australia and to feel that you belong. Haley Eves (Representing Young Australia at 2001 Centenary of Nationhood) |
The most outstanding quality is the magnificence of its environment. Rich in grandeur and beauty, this land has engendered a deep significance in the culture of its inhabitants over thousands of years. The environment is woven into our art, history and literature which speak of survival, isolation, and mateship. Australia's sense of freedom and vastness regenerates the spirit of the weary and despondent traveller. The best qualities of most contemporary Australians include openness, optimism, fearlessness of the horizons ahead, generosity of spirit, freedom of mind and speech, an irreverent sense of humour, cultural and spiritual diversity. Prof. Marie Bashir AC (Governor of New South Wales)
